Our talking turkeys were initially created for a Southwest Airlines’ “Wanna Get Away” Thanksgiving assignment, but that whole assignment disappeared into the ether. A year later, the turkeys were back as a Thanksgiving card from the newly formed Leo Burnett LA to let people know that Leo really did have an office in Los Angeles. The only issue: our ECD thought the scripts were too tame and we needed us to push them, then go produce it. So we did. It turns out we pushed them a bit too far. I believe the response was, “a gimp turkey in a wheelchair? We can’t send this out from the agency.” So, with a finished product in hand, we said screw it and sent it to everyone we knew. And I guess they sent it to everyone they knew because our bit of Thanksgiving cheer was seen on six continents and all of the 50 states — except North Dakota, which may or may not exist.
